Amsterdam

We made a quick trip to Amsterdam. The loft apartment we rented leaned such that it hung about 2 feet over you as you were unlocking the front door. We rented bicycles to get around. Traffic is a free-for-all in Amsterdam. Few pay attention to signs and signals and scooters fill the bike lanes.

We spent one day at the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. The Rijks had a tablet guide for kids that made them wander around to find artwork and clues to win a prize. The kids actually enjoyed it and saw things we didn't. We also tried a paddle boat on the canals.

We took a train to Weesp and than Naarden, small towns east of Amsterdam. Our plan was to rent bikes and see castles and windmills. Unfortunately, no one had a bike Jack's size so we tried a bus and got lost for while. We eventually made it to Naarden, an old fortressed city on foot and found some ice cream.

Typical canal scene - most all commerce used to travel by barges on the canals. That would have been something to see
