Koh Tao -Scuba certified!

The Christensen-Sundell family is all open water scuba certified! Yeah! We were very busy diving, studying and refueling. Sorry no scuba photos (left the GoPro home somehow), but here is Zoe in her scuba t-shirt.
The kids did remarkably well and seemed relaxed breathing underwater. Jack was distracted at times building sand piles and poking fish while we were learning exercises on the bottom of the sea. Somehow he still manages to take it all in. He cracks me up.

I had to shave to wear a dive mask.

Koh Tao is the second most popular place to get scuba certified in the world.

Koh Tao is beautiful. There are amazing eroded granite formations everywhere. I had the impression that in a light breeze enormous spherical boulders could roll down at any moment. I'm not sure what was keeping them in place. At times it appeared the rocks were immense lounging stone creatures ready to wake and get up from the shores.

It must be spring break in Europe and Australia. 95+% of the tourists were between 18 and 24 years of age. Our kids sensed the freedom and are already scheming on how to return without their parents.

As a result of its beauty both above and below the water, Koh Tao is unfortunately over developed. No big all inclusive resorts, but water has to be trucked via diesel pickups to the hotels and bungalows all day long from a desalination/ water treatment ship in the main harbor. With the exceptions of cans and bottles, all of the refuse generated to support the western tourist life style (ours included) was burned when the wind was offshore (you noticed it most from the dive boats).

Sorry but we only have a handful of photos from Koh Tao.

The coconut grove our "Secret Garden" bungalows were hidden in.
