Land Down Under

We made it to Sydney on a red eye. We paid for seats for tall, fat people, but I still only got an hour of sleep. I think (hope) the others did better. It's the kids first trip south of the Equator.  My first impressions are people are taller, heavier, lighter-eyed, dress really nice and smoke a lot in Sydney.  One of the kids, I don't remember which so they'll both get credit said, "I like it here. Australians are good planners. They have bike lanes and bus lanes and wide sidewalks." They also mentioned it smelled better, but didn't make the connection.  Ann-Kristin noted the $15 burgers and $9 beers! We ate pizza and leafy salads!  We're not in Thailand any more.

We spent the first day on a 6-hour, privately-guided bike ride all around the shores of Sydney Harbor and downtown Sydney. Graeme, our guide, gave us the history and knew where to stop for the photos.  He photo-bombed everyone (Japanese appreciate it, Germans don't).  It was the best way to see a bike-friendly city like Sydney.

Cockatoos are as prolific as crows here only white and louder

After the ride, we hiked to the Sydney Harbor Bridge and climbed a pylon.  Not the "bridge climb" but nearly as high and $110 cheaper each.
