Thai silk

On the trip between the tree houses and Chiang Rai, we stopped to visit a Thai silk factory. It was interesting.

Chinese (little white ones) and Thai (big ones) silk moths, silk worms below

Chinese silk worms

Thai silk worms. These things are as big as your little finger

Silk cocoons, Chinese are white, Thai are yellow

When the moths are done with them, or at least that's what we were told, the cacoons are heated in water and the silk threads extracted using a spinning wheel much like is done with wool. One cacoons provides 500 meters of thread.

Then the silk is washed, dyed and woven  into fabric
You could buy a men's silk suit here for 5,560 baht, less than $200
